The World No. 5 ranked Maria Sharapova has not won a single major tournament title, but she has become the top earned female athlete for the seventh straight year.
The Forbes has announced list of top-earning female athletes in a season, where Russian star Sharapova retained at the top spot for the seventh occasion. The 24-year-old Sharapova has $25 million over the last year, double the amount of any other female athlete in the world. Sharapova’s endorsement collection includes like Nike, Head, Clear Shampoo, Sony Ericsson, Evian, Tag Heuer and Tiffany.
Sharapova has extended her Nike contract in 2010 for eight years, which it could net her as much as $70 million. The sales of her Nike line of tennis attire were up to 26% in last year and she now has five other Tour pros wearing the collection. The World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki is second highest female athlete in the world earning at $12.5 million. She achieved $6 million in prize money and another $6.5 million from appearances and sponsors in 2010 season.
The Third place occupied by the Racing’s American Danica Patrick ranked No. 3 earned at $12 million. Li Na of China is the third player in the Women tennis to receive $8 million, where she had signed with new contracts with companies like Mercedes-Benz maker Daimler, Nike, Haagen-Dazs and Rolex in her endorsement selection.
